A wonderful morning to you all as we check out the results of the football matches played yesterday Sunday December 22, 2019
Chelsea defeated Tottenham 2-0 away from home in the London Derby yesterday.
Winger Willian scored twice to get the Blues back to winning ways following a series of poor results in recent weeks. The first goal was scored in the 12th minute of the match and the second was a penalty just before half-time after Tottenham goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga acrobatically brought down Marcos Alonso in the box.
All hope got lost for the Spurs to recover the setback after Heung-min Son was given his marching order for an unnecessary foul on Antonio Rudiger.
Jose Mourinho lost at home for the first time against a club he used to manage in the 14th attempt.
Chelsea are in fourth position with 32 points, Tottenham have 26 points and stand in seventh position.
Manchester United were well beaten by Watford at Vicarage Road thanks to a 2-0 triumph with goals from Ismaïla Sarr after a lacklustre goalkeeping from David De Gea and a penalty goal by Troy Deeney after right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka brought Sarr down in the box.
Both goals were separated by four minutes and Deeney’s goal was his first goal in the Premier League in nine months.
United now have 25 points from 18 matches, their lowest in a Premier League era, they stand eighth on the table, seven points behind fourth place Chelsea. Watford meanwhile are still 20th on the table with 12 points, six points away from Southampton who are 17th placed.
In Italy, Lazio defeated Juventus 3-1 to win the Supercoppa Italiana. Luis Alberto scored first for Lazio before Paulo Dybala equalised, Senad Lulic regained Lazio’s lead before Danilo Cataldi scored a wonderful free-kick in stoppage time to take the game beyond Juventus after Rodrigo Bentancur was red carded.
Lazio have won the Supercoppa for the fifth time, the last one was in 2017 where they also defeated Juventus. It was the first time since 2013 that Cristiano Ronaldo lost a cup final, ending a run of 14 consecutive finals in six years with Real Madrid, Portugal and Juventus.
