Hello sports lovers, a wonderful morning to you all as we check out the results of the football matches played yesterday. There were lots of exciting results, ride with us as we review them.
Real Madrid were stunned by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City who came from behind to defeat Zinedine Zidane’s side 2-1 in the first leg of the Champions League round-of-16 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
It was not a good night for Real Madrid who scored first through Isco from a Vinicius Junior lay down before Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus scored an header from a Kevin De Bruyne’s cross to equalise. De Bruyne scored the winner from the penalty spot after Dani Carvajal brought down Raheem Sterling in the box.
It was a night to forget for Real Madrid as Sergio Ramos got red carded late in the match after hindering Jesus from going through on goal. Ramos being the last man had to bring him down and was given his marching order. The bad news is that he will miss the second leg at the Etihad. That becomes a bigger mountain for Madrid to climb.
It was a beautiful set up from Manchester City on the night, being the first English team in the Champions League round-of-16 this campaign to secure a win, all of Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham have all lost so far. A more mature display will however be needed in the second leg, it remains to be seen who comes out triumphant.
Toothless Juventus were shocked by Lyon who defeated them 1-0 in the first leg of the Champions League round-of-16 in France. Lucas Tousart scored in the first-half and that was all they needed to beat the Serie A champion for the first time in their history.
Juventus failed to get a shot on target throughout the match which qualifies exactly how bad they were. The Old Lady will have to be more convincing in the second leg at Turin, or else, they risk crashing out of the competition.
In the Europa League…
Steven Gerrard’s Rangers are the first to book their place in the Europa League Round-of-16. This was confirmed after they beat Braga 1-0 yesterday in Portugal, the goal was scored by Ryan Kent in the 61st minutes. The encounter ended 4-2 on aggregate in favour of Rangers, having won their first leg 3-2 last week in Scotland.
