A wonderful morning to you all as we check out the results of the football matches played yesterday Sunday September 22, 2019
Liverpool defeated Chelsea with a narrow 2-1 victory at the Stamford Bridge to maintain their perfect start to the Premier League season and take them five points clear at the top of the table.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino scored and took Liverpool up with two goals in the first-half before N’Golo Kante’s second-half solo goal gave Frank Lampard’s side a revival though they failed to capitalise on their other chances and the game ended in a 2-1 victory for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Liverpool are first on the Premier League table with 18 points while Chelsea are 11th with eight points.
Liverpool have now gone unbeaten in the last 23 League games, this is their longest since November 1990. They are also the first side in the history of the competition to win their first six matches of the season for two successive seasons.
10-man Arsenal had to fight hard to secure a comeback victory over Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium.
John McGinn gave Aston Villa the deserved lead in the 20th minutes before Arsenal right-back Ainsley Maitland-Nile saw red card for two bookable offences just before half-time which added more miseries to Arsenal’s problems.
The performance continued in the second-half before Matteo Guendouzi was tripped in the box as Nicolas Pepe brought the Gunners level. The goal however lasted just 89 seconds with Wesley Moraes Ferreira da Silva giving Villa the lead yet again.
Arsenal however came back to life as substitute Callum Chambers drew them level in the 81st minutes before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang fired a free-kick inside the net three minutes later to give the Gunners the 3-2 victory. The Gunners have now moved to fourth with 11 points while Aston Villa are 18th with four points.
West Ham stunned Manchester United with a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Andriy Yarmolenko and Aaron Cresswell. It was a lacklustre performance from the Old Trafford side which saw Marcus Rashford added to their long injury list. West Ham moved to fifth with 11 points while United are eighth with eight points.
Real Madrid got back to winning ways after their 3-0 butchering at PSG last week as they defeated Sevilla 1-0 away from home thanks to a lone goal from Karim Benzema. The Santiago Bernabeu side are now second on the La Liga table with 11 points.
