Starting with Bundesliga…
Borussia Dortmund thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0 at home in the Bundesliga match on Friday. Lukasz Piszczek, Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland and Raphael Guerreiro all got on the scoresheet as full-back Achraf Hakimi shined with two assists on the night.
The win helped Dortmund put an end to their poor form of late after losing their previous three matches in all competitions. They now have 42 points in 22 Bundesliga matches, standing in second position, using higher goal difference to lead RB Leipzig.
Dortmund have now scored 63 Bundesliga goals from just 22 matches, equalling Bayern Munich and Hamburg’s record of 1973/74 and 1981/82 season respectively.
In the La Liga…
Atletico Madrid were held away at Valencia to a 2-2 draw as Diego Simeone’s side poor form continues. Marcos Llorente and Thomas Partey were on the scoresheet for Atletico Madrid but Valencia had to come twice to equalise through Gabriel Paulista and Geoffrey Kondogbia.
The draw saw Atletico Madrid remain fourth but now with 40 points while Valencia are sixth with 38 points.
In the Premier League…
Wolverhampton were held at home to a 0-0 draw against Leicester City who were reduced to 10 men late in the match. Wolverhampton scored through Willy Boly but the goal was ruled out for offside after referee Mike Dean consulted VAR.
In the 76th minutes, Hamza Choudhury was sent off for a second yellow card and though Wolverhampton were the better side, they could not find a way to secure all three points. Wolverhampton are now seventh with 36 points while Leicester remain third with 50 points.
In Ligue 1…
Islam Slimani scored the lone goal that helped Monaco defeat Montpellier 1-0 last night as they moved to fifth on the table with 38 points. Montpellier were not good enough and they slipped down the table to sixth with 37 poknts. Monaco have now won three successive Ligue 1 matches, an impressive form they will like to build on.
