|Kepa Arrizabalaga saved the day for Chelsea|
Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s first-half goal was cancelled out by Luka Jovic’s second-half equalizer and the match went into extra time following a 2-2 aggregate draw.
The extra time made no difference and Chelsea had to progress through a 4-3 penalty shootout win thanks to Kepa Arrizabalaga’s brilliant save. Chelsea now set up a final on May 29 in Baku against Arsenal who won 4-2 at Valencia.
This is the first time the Champions League and Europa League final will all be played by clubs from the same country.
Chelsea have now won each of their last four penalty shootouts at the Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are yet to lose a home match against German oppositions.
Frankfurt have scored in all of their seven games away from home in the Europa League this season.
Eden Hazard has scored 13 and assisted 11 goals in 26 games at the Stamford Bridge this campaign.
Loftus-Cheek has been involved in nine goals in his last 14 games for Chelsea, as many as he gathered in his previous 45 matches for them.
|Aubameyang scored a hat-trick for Arsenal|
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s hat-trick sends Arsenal into the Europa League final after beating Valencia 4-2 away from home.
The Gunners secured a 7-3 aggregate victory over the Spanish side to set up a final against Chelsea in Baku on May 29. Alexandre Lacazette also got on the score sheet while Kevin Gameiro scored the two goals for Valencia.
It’s a good step forward for the Gunners who only have the Europa League to salvage their season and secure qualification into next season’s Champions League after failing to make the top four.
This is the first time Arsenal will win against a Spanish side away from home since their 1-0 win at Real Madrid in February 2006 and they’ve since then gone seven matches against Spanish side without a win away from home.
Among Premier League players, only Sergio Aguero who has 31 goals has scored more goals in all competitions than Aubameyang who has 29 goals this season.
Lacazette has now been involved in 51 goals for Arsenal, more than any of teammates since his debut with the Emirate side.
Apart from own-goals, 11 of Arsenal’s last 12 Europa League goals have involved both Aubameyang and Lacazette. Aubameyang has six goals and two assists while Lacazette has four goals and one assist.
